I'm a Cheltenham-based artist working chiefly in acrylic.
Alongside art, my other passion is kickboxing. I am convinced my martial arts have given me the self-belief and confidence to take the plunge with my painting.
The same year I became a blackbelt, I launched my art business.
I think it also goes some way to explain why I’m so preoccupied with movement in my work. I want my subjects to have a punch, a whoosh moment, a sense of being alive.
A newspaper journalist for nearly 15 years, I like getting stuck into new challenges and tend to paint whatever catches my eye. Often that’s something in motion, but if it’s not, I enjoy putting my energetic take on it.
I know what I like to look at and interpret what I see instinctively.
My favourite subjects include birds, water, nature, wildlife and sport, and, more recently, fruit, buildings and local landmarks.
If I’m inspired by the idea, shapes and colours, I’ll have a go at anything!
