MEETING MEMBERS OF THE COLLECTIVE

MEET| ARTISTS

SUE DURKIN AND JONATHAN OAKES

This month instead of introducing some new artists, we're meeting a pair of artists who've been part of the community since the early days, helping us build up this collective of fantastic artists. Both have work showing this month so be sure to catch them.

With both Sue and Jonathans work we can delve into natures beauty; exploring the world through the eyes of two very different artists. Working across expressive representational forms and semi abstracts through to fully abstracted imaginative responses to the environment around them these two artists both show us the world through their own gaze.

SUE DURKIN

Sue's Sixteen Online portfolio is full of organic, saturated responses to the landscapes and nature around her. Beautiful serene semi abstract or loose representations infused with light. Her beautifully titled works succinctly give hints to the landscapes she invites the viewer into, opening her world through her bold mark making and sublime colour palette. Her response to the changes in the landscape is captured perfectly in her garden views and her tree series as they move through the seasons taking the viewer through the year with her.

Sue has a piece in the Sixteen Online show "Summer" until the 4th September, you can catch it there alongside some other fantastic works.

JONATHAN OAKES

Jonathan's work is a riot of storytelling in subdued earthy tones. Expressive and organic his pieces draw inspiration from environmental concerns and the difference between natural and synthetic experiences provoking thoughtfulness and flights of imagination in his viewers. He invites viewers into his own carefully curated world of characters and spaces whilst drawing attention to his feelings and thoughts about the real world around him.

His solo show at Sixteen Gallery from the 5th September, promises to bring plenty of his dynamic intrigue so make sure to pop down to soak it all in.
