FRIDAY FEATURE - MARGARET POWELL

ARTISTS | FEATURES

Cross section of artwork: Malvern Hills Rhapsody

This week our Friday Feature article is on the Worcestershire painter Margaret Powell.

Margaret is a classically trained artist who paints a wide range of genres from landscapes to pet portraits using both oil and acrylic. She often paints still lifes; reflecting everyday items but with personal connections, adding emotional depth to her depictions of contemporary scenes. These images, often of flowers, have an poignancy to them and an almost conversational balance between the flowers and their setting, giving a weight to the narrative or backstory to what the viewer is looking at.

Margaret is inspired by Impressionism and Colourism which comes across in her vivid, untimid yet delicately rendered works which burst with colour and texture. Working at medium and small sizes allows her to explore the intimate, quiet power of an image and allows a viewer to interact at close proximity to fully explore the marks and details put into each piece.

Margaret exhibits regularly at Artists’ Studios at Bevere Gallery and The Artery Studios, Worcester as well as Number 8 Gallery, Pershore. She is a regular exhibitor at Worcestershire Open Studios every August. As a founding member of Barbourne Artists collective she organises a group exhibit every summer as well as taking part in Barbourne Artists’ Christmas Fair.

You can find out where to see her work next, view her latest pieces, message her directly, or find her on socials all in her portfolio below.
