This timeline outlines just some of the open call competitions and exhibitions across the UK. These opportunities offer a chance to have your work critiqued by peers and industry experts, some fantastic prizes and a way to expand both your audience and community.


So if you're looking for a way to put yourself out there, take a look through what's coming up, and see if any of them are the right fit for you. We've noted up the deadlines and put some links to more information so you can start planning out your calendar.

With a lot of the most popular competitions behind us for this year, there are still a few interesting opportunities to come in 2024, here's a quick overview of what's to come, their deadlines and where to submit:


Bath Society of Artists Open Exhibition 2024

DEADLINE: Saturday 24th August


Bath Open Art Prize 2024

DEADLINE: Sunday 8th September


British Art Prize 2024

DEADLINE: Thursday 26th September


Royal Institute of Oil Painters 2024

DEADLINE: Friday 4th October


Royal Institute of Watercolours 2024

OPENS: Friday 8th November DEADLINE: Sunday 2nd February


The Pastel Society 2025

OPENS: Monday 12th August DEADLINE: Friday 15th November

Most of the big competitions and open exhibitions have shows through the summer, meaning that they have not yet released their 2025 deadlines. We can however give you an idea of what month those deadlines might be, so that you can potentially plan ahead or set aside pieces of work, however your process works for you. We will keep this post updated with dates and other opportunities whenever we get information, so you can always check back. We also regularly post onto social media when opportunities arise, so you can always check that out here.
