Tonia Rees
Tonia Graduated from the University of Central England with a B.A. hons in Fine Art and an M.A. in Fine Art in 2004. Moving to Worcestershire in 2008, Tonia continued to work as an artist and art tutor within the county while bringing up a young family.
With a smidge more time these days to work as an artist, work has evolved so that Tonia’s practice is now primarily collage/acrylic based, centred around abstract mark making and texture.
Tonia’s love of collage and surface texture goes back to her student days in the sculpture department. All recent work sees a reusing of art magazines and photocopies from her lessons.
“I like the idea of Text and images being buried, reworked, reformed as part of something new. Sometimes secretive, sometimes playful, I never tire of collage papers assisting in the creative process.”
Tonia has exhibited in Britain and Europe. Her most recent achievements to date include being shortlisted for the Contemporary Collage magazine awards 2022, shortlisted for the V.A.A. International exhibition and scholarship prize 2023. Longlisted for the V.A.A. Artist of the Year awards and Visual Arts Open U.K. and international emerging artist awards 2024.
