Janet Chaplin
I graduated from my conceptual art degrees in the early 1990s and made textile work full of contrasts of colours, textures and ideas. I really enjoy a experimental process in my abstract work, often working on fabric using inks, pigments alongside the more traditional Oils and Acrylic.
I have taught Art for over 30 years in South East Wales and have exhibited in Wales, Italy and London during this time, however over the last 5 years my Career as an artist has flourished, exhibiting more frequently and recently setting up my own Studio/Gallery. I have several collections ranging from Landscapes, Seascapes, Gardens, Riverbanks and Abstracts. Most of my work is very colourful Semi Abstract, but its the Abstracts I would like to showcase on this platform. Please visit my Website to view my other collections.
I like playing with impact of the juxtaposition of colours matching the contrasting colours together can make them come alive just like the Fauves use of colour theory and the way that Seurat made his painting pulsate. Franz Marc's marks and Rothko colour block paintings that draw you in are major influences on my work. Shani Rhys James's honesty and Mary Lloyd Jones's language of shape and marks have fascinated me. I could name a lot more influences and still would not be able to describe my work to you, so I leave it to you. I work in colour and contrasts, I try to capture life.
