Ann Ogden

Ann was born and grew up in Cheltenham and currently still lives there. She has always enjoyed her art and enrolled on a Visual Arts Degree at Cheltenham university as a mature student but unfortunatly after the 2nd year the course was relocated and due to poor transport links Ann was unable to continue. Since then Ann has participated in various art groups, workshops and courses and in recent years she has exhibited work in a local gallery as part of a group and in pop up exhibitions also participating in last years Cheltenham open studios which she thoroughly enjoyed. Ann works in oils, acrylics, watercolour and mixed media to create her paintings and likes to experiment using almost anything to hand. Ann’s favourite medium is pencil in which she creates very detailed work, this can take many hours to complete. She finds the pencil challenges her to capture the tonal values, depth, light and movement of her subjects and the variety of marks that can be created with pencil are very rewarding. When using pencil or charcoal Ann finds there are many different techniques of working and putting down marks with various ‘tools’ to produce different effects, from thick black bold lines to very subtle grey soft tones. Ann feels a sense of excitement when starting a new work or project. The main subjects in her pencil drawings are animals and people. Ann also enjoys painting seascapes in oils and acrylics on a variety of surfaces of all sizes inspired by beautiful sea views from her time spent in Spain.
